Skylerisms...

As Skyler has gotten older, her Skylerisms have gotten fewer and farther between. There are some examples here, here, and here. Now, she's just got more of the gift of comedic timing that her father has. She comes out with the funniest things at just the right moment and constantly has us wondering how she thinks of them. I've got two in mind.

On Sunday afternoon, we were running around trying to get out of the house to meet with the photographer. Matt and I were bickering, which we rarely do, and the kids were in the other room. I walked into the room that they were in, Skyler looks at me, shakes her head, and says "Are you feelin' the love?".

Last night we were watching The Big Bang Theory together.

There's a scene later in this episode where Penny and the new neighbor get in a girl fight. After the girls are pulled apart, Skyler says "HA. You got SERVED." Matt and I just made eyes at each other and suppressed hysterics. Where the heck does a six year old learn THAT?

She's a crack up this one. I can only imagine what she says to her Kindergarten teacher!

Beach Pictures...

The spring weather is finally here and we are just loving it. With the exception of rain showers on Saturday (soccer canceled), we had a fantastic weekend. Matt took the kids to see Monsters vs. Aliens in Imax and they all gave it two thumbs up. I took this opportunity to clean Skyler's room. It took me THREE hours, I kid you not. Some would wonder why I don't make her do it with me. Well, I like to do it by myself every so often so I can get rid of shit. Seriously, I threw out two trash bags of random crap and filled another three with stuff for Good Will. I organized all of her arts and crafts stuff, which she loves more than anything, and made a nice work space for her. I was pleased with myself when all was said and done.

Sunday was a beautiful beautiful day. The kids played outside while I puttered around putting some laundry away, etc. etc. Late in the afternoon we met up with a great Photographer that my SIL recommended to have some family photos done. We had such a blast. The kids were wild as could be and ran around like we had just freed them from some sort of winter jail. Here are the pictures that I took. Fareine will have her pictures for us in a couple of weeks. I was just shooting as the kids ran around. I can't wait to see what Fareine comes up with.

Matt took this next one:

Yes that water was FREEZING. It was 80* out so the kids couldn't resist. They were so hysterical to watch. They even took pictures hugging and no one cried because the other one was splashing water at him/her. This warm air does something to people, I'm telling you. Once they get a day or two of it, they'll be back to being terrible to each other. It's the nature of being siblings.

Marathons, and trips, and vomit oh my...

I did it again. I went another week neglecting my blog. I get so busy and then BOOM another Friday is here and I haven't blathered on and on about my week yet.

Last weekend was busy to say the least. Saturday morning Skyler had a soccer game and Zack ran the final mile of the Shamrock Marathon. He had loads of fun and was SO proud of himself. The beach was cold, but I suppose the runners appreciated that once they got going. The spectators, not so much.

Here he is psyching himself up for the run:

Just a bit before the finish line:

With his two buddies. They're all the same age (Hello tall!).

As soon as we were finished I raced Mr. Man home to get ready for his soccer game and picked up Skyler for a little road trip. Zack was NOT impressed that A. I was leaving him for more than 24 hours and 2. that his sister was going with.

Skyler and I drove up to Maryland for a get together at my friend Shelli's house. She was kind enough to host a huge gathering of our online parenting group. We had a blast gabbing and watching the kids play. Skyler learned all about birds as Shelli has a ton of bird houses and can't wait to get her own feeders started.

We got home Sunday night and you would have thought that Skyler had been gone a month she was SO glad to see her "boys". She gave Zack a huge hug which he reluctantly allowed. She even asked for a kiss; he blushed and walked away. It was nice for the girls to get some girl time and the boys to get some boy time. We'll have to do this more often, absence makes the heart grow fonder and all that jazz.

I started physical therapy on Monday for my shoulder problem. HELLO DOLLY - I lurve my therapist. The first session alone was helpful and he got that spot in the middle of my back that always hurts and makes my shoulder muscles tense up. You'll find me there three afternoons a week for the next month.

Sky woke up Tuesday morning saying her belly hurt. I did the same thing most mothers do (don't you?) and said "have some breakfast, you'll feel fine". Note to self, listen to this kid when she says she doesn't feel well. She made it until about 9am before she threw up in her classroom. OOPS. I raced to pick her up and we took a nice four (five?) hour nap. She spiked a fever and didn't feel better the next day so she stayed home with Daddy.

In the midst of the PT and the soccer practices and Skyler being sick, Zack decided to stop doing homework and in the confusion of running around Matt and I both took to believing him when we asked if his homework was done rather than checking, our mistake. I got an email from his teacher yesterday informing me that the little shit hadn't done his homework in two days and that he had informed her that he didn't have time because of soccer. His butt warmed the kitchen chair last night until he did every last bit that he owed her. I'm back on vigilant Mom patrol.

We've got another crazy soccer weekend coming up and rain is on the forecast. We'll either be without anything fun to do or we'll be wet. I can't WAIT to find out which it is.

Just for fun here's another of Skyler's sassafrass outfits:

Happy Vernal Equinox...

Happy Vernal Equinox! Starting tomorrow the days will begin to get longer than the nights which is wonderful. More sunshine is a good thing! It's time to start cleaning out closets and flower beds. I've got to throw down some weed killer and pick out some grass seed. Spring is so inspiring!

Of course, we've got the usual long list of things to do this weekend that will prevent me from doing anything in the above paragraph. Zack's got a race tomorrow morning and a soccer game in the afternoon. Matt and Skyler have soccer in the morning. Matt and I will do our usual version of tag team parenting switching kids and cars at mapped out spots in convenient areas of the city. Skyler and I are also taking a little road trip to meet up with some of my friends in Maryland. Shhh. I haven't told Zack (aka my third leg) yet. He's going to pitch a fit. I told Matt I'd call and tell him when we're about an hour out of town. If I tell him before I go I won't hear the end of it until then. He and his dad will have fun together, he just doesn't do well with anticipating a separation from me (aka his security blanket). Just call us Oedipus and Jacosta!

I'm sure I'll have tons of pictures to post come Monday if not before. Enjoy your weekend!

Forgettable...

Zack's got a buddy that lives in the court behind us. Our houses don't exactly meet back to back, but aren't far off. The two of them spend all weekend running back and forth, trading houses and video game systems. We know the buddy's parents, see them at every PTA function, school fair, and at the community pool all summer long. I talk to them on the phone at least three times a week to tell them to send Zack home, it's time for dinner.

Last night I volunteered at the kids' school's Book Fair. I had so much fun seeing their little friends browse the selections and painstakingly make their selections of the perfect books to bring home. About an hour in, I see Zack's buddy's Dad. I go up to him and tap him on the shoulder and say "Heeeey, I know you!" He looks at me for two beats and says "You do?" *pause pause pause* "From where?". At first, I thought he was joking. After he asked "from where?" I was more than a little shocked. Those that know me know that I haven't changed much since shortly after birth. It's not like I've got a crazy new hair color or have gained/lost 50lbs. YES, it's been two weeks since we've spoken face to face, but... am I really that forgettable?

Nine Years of Wedded Bliss...

Nine years ago today Matt and I got hitched. It was a beautiful New England day after having snowed the day before. Matt sent me roses that morning, so sweet! My mother, thinking that the florist should be delivering our wedding flowers, tried to convince the delivery driver that he had the WRONG flowers, and "OMG she's going to freak when she sees red roses rather than blue delphinium". I assure you that all the women at my cousin's house that day were atwitter. They'd never heard of a guy sending his bride roses on their wedding day. That's the kind of guy I married.

I love you honey!

More physical therapy...

I'm heading back to physical therapy for my shoulder. I went for a month last year and it worked for as long as I went and then the effects sort of petered off. Because I'm a Mom and wasn't bleeding profusely or had a limb dangling, I didn't follow up on it. I just suffered in silence (HA! Matt would say). It's finally becoming life limiting again and so back I went.

My doctor informs me that I've got extremely week shoulder muscles on the right side causing Secondary Shoulder Impingement and I need more physical therapy and this time just for kicks and giggles he's not giving me the magic cortisone shot. He wants to see if I do well without it. He fears that the therapy worked to make me feel better because the cortisone was working its magic. I'm not sure if he's sadistic or helpful.

Anyone want to take bets whether I can find a physical therapy location that has hours convenient for a working mother?

Another Little Citizen of the Month...

Wednesday morning Skyler informed me that she was Citizen of the Month this month. This was while we were getting dressed and doing the usual manic race around in the morning. I asked her when she found out and she said "well my teacher called me up to her desk and gave me a piece of paper. Are you coming to my school tomorrow?." I had to ask where the paper was and when did she get it. She gave me the typical "DUH. It's in my backpack look." We straightened all that out and figured out that she has been selected as her class's Citizen of the Month for Honesty. We are, of course, SO proud of her! If the amount of tattling she does on her brother were an indicator, she was a shoe in for the Honesty category.

I went to her school this morning where they had a little award ceremony. She was QUITE proud of herself:

Two Weeks In Review...

Before this morning I hadn't updated since Feb 26th. Let's see if we can do a quick two weeks in review via pictures.

The weekend of Feb 28th my Mom came to visit.

She took the kids to the beach, spoiled them with toys and gifts, took them to the aquarium (the pictures live on her camera), and we went out to dinner which was a huge huge mistake on Friday.

Saturday she and I went to a quilt convention (perhaps the REAL reason for her visit?) and although not conventional I thought this quilt was cool:

It's teeny tiny blocks of fabric pictures see:

We stopped at Trader Joes for some nummies on the way home and then had the Wilkinsons over for dinner. We had carne asada and fried ice cream! It was SINFUL!

Then Nate helped us play Scrabble, he's tough to beat if he gets the X I tell you!

The next morning we visited with my aunt, uncle, and cousins.
Here is the youngest generation. Kathryn (on the left) was NOT in the mood for pictures.

Discussion moved to the fact that Boston was expecting lots-o-snow the next morning and all of a sudden I found myself driving to the airport dropping Mom off. She ended up stuck for four hours but did land. She would not have been able to land the next day so it worked out. We were disappointed that her visit was so short, but that's weather for you!

Later that night Skyler lost her first tooth:

School school school. Homework homework homework. Soccer practice soccer practice.

The kids had their first soccer games AT THE SAME TIME but at different fields on Saturday. We had to split up and since Matt coaches Sky's team, I went to Zack's. Can I tell you how easy it is to have to worry about ONE child on game day?

Me: ZACK get your cleats on. Let's roll.

I can assure you that when I am responsible for getting the entire family there it does not sound anything like ^ that. There's much more shrieking and racing around. Could the culprits of that situation be THESE two?

How cute is this soccer skirt?

The one in the red socks:

Let's see. Then our favorite baby boy had his one year birthday party:

Little People were a big hit!

Everyone but my SIL Lashelle keep reading. Lashelle - this is the end of this post.

And FINALLY that brings us to yesterday. It was almost 80* here yesterday. We took the kids to the park where they both ran a mile with our friend Christen. I do not run for fear of hurting myself so I walked.

Spring has sprung

That's the Reader's Digest version of the last two weeks. I'll try my bestest to keep up a little better. I know you missed my rambling thoughts on life ;-)

In the words of Zack & Skyler...

Holy FSM! I am a horrible horrible blog owner. I have completely neglected this blog for TWO whole weeks. I can't believe it. WELL. To get the fires burning under my butt, I'll copy and paste a meme from Facebook.

If you have a kiddo old enough to answer, do this...it was really worth it for the laughs!!

Cut and paste these questions and ask your kids their answers....

For some of the questions, they had the same answers but didn't hear each other.

1. What is something mom always says to you?
Skyler, age 6: No
Zack, age 8: No. No, I love you.

S: When we listen
Z: Being nice to your sister.

3. What makes mom sad?
S: When we fight
Z: Being mean and fresh.

4. What does your mom do to make you laugh?
S: tickle me
Z: tickle me

5. What was your mom like as a child?
S: a girl
Z: blonde hair, cheerleader, think that's all

6. How old is your mom?
S: 42 {34}
Z: 34

7. How tall is your mom?
S: *stands on chair* this tall
Z: 50 inches

S: working at work
Z: laundry

12. What is your mom not very good at?
S: ooh this is hard, drawing?
Z: video games

13. What does your mom do for a job?
S: work at BA Station {close}
Z: give blood {I gave blood on Friday at a drive at work}

14.What is your mom's favorite food?
S: pancakes {not only do I not like pancakes, but I have never eaten them when Matt makes them for the rest of the family} Then she changed her answer to sushi.
Z: shrimp {HIS favorite food}

At this point Skyler was pushing me to hurry up because she had more important things to do: "Come on Mom, I've got homework"

15.What makes you proud of your mom?
S: I'm proud of you saving me from stuff that is dangerous. {I do. OFTEN}
Z: I'm proud that my Mom's happy and nice and helpful and kind.

16. If your mom were a cartoon character, who would she be?
S: Hannah Montana
Z: Jedi

17. What do you and your mom do together?
S: play
Z: snuggle

18. How are you and your mom the same?

S: that he married you
Z: he's strong and handsome

22. Where is your mom's favorite place to go?
S: Target, that was an EASY one!

Things I learned from my children: They actually HEAR me when I say no, they just choose not to listen. I do too much laundry and spend too much time on the computer. The kisses and hugs are working!
